The Gospel world is saddened by the passing of Mosie "Mama" Burks, a pioneer and longtime member of the Mississippi Mass Choir. She was a staple in the gospel sectors. Her fiery, spirited singing will be sorely missed!

Mama Burks inspired many with her joyful, upbeat and soulful renditions of the Mississippi Mass Choir's popular songs "I'm Not Tired Yet," and "This Morning When I Rose."

A public visitation will be held Tuesday, July 15 at Jackson Memorial Funeral Service on Woodrow Wilson Avenue in Jackson from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A musical celebration will follow from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Greater Fairview Baptist Church on Newport Street in Jackson. The funeral for Mama Mosie Burks will be held the following Wednesday, July 16, at Greater Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Faith Church on Robinson Street in Jackson. The service will begin at 11 a.m.
